Tech News
To share, I really like to vist ars technica for all my tech news some of the news is kinda draconian but a good tag line will grab your attention every now and then.
Human energy harvesting,
This popped up in my news feed of Google Desktop. sounds like if we combine this idea, secondlife and Word of Warcraft we would have the beginnings of a very good Matrix.
Whoa …. this cant be happening
Stereo Multiplexing
found this old tripod website about how stereo audio is handled in your car, walkman, ipod (with attachment) and ect….
http://members.tripod.com/~transmitters/stereo.htm
Its an old tripod website…that brings back memories. I am using this article as some reading material to eventually build my own Ipod Itrip. I am looking for a certain audio quality and I dont want to be able to tell if i am listening via the radio or if its a cd playing in my deck. Many of the fm transmitters you can get at your local Worst-Buy and Ripoff-City are very cheep and give awful audio quality. Worse yet they want like an average of 70 bucks! Kiss my big….well you get the point. I figure try an build one myself. The advantages are i save a lot of money and I can advance my knowledge of signals and systems professionally. I figure it would be a great project were i could actually learn something from that i could use later
Great Day At the Spring..
Church is over and it is always exciting to go and serve in an area that I can have such passion in. It is also a great comfort to know that the team i serve doesn’t hold me back and in general gives free rein on the extent i wish to serve the Production team. It is actually very odd, because during the week i am fairly laid back with only spurts of excitement. People at work tend to see me as a mature adult but know that I can kick back and have a good time. However, when Sunday morning comes around I pop out of bed like I am a bagel in a toaster. Unlike most mornings I have to drag myself out of bed kicking and screaming (thats a funny mental picture). Most mornings my wife will kick me and say, aren’t you suppose to be getting ready?! Sunday is different. I have have an uncanny amount of energy that is not encouraged by any narcotics or caffeine supplements. I just radiate energy and just get so excited about serving in Production at Newspring. People at church must think i am bat crazy…well I wont deny that. Today was a special day, as it was my last day serving from sun up to sun down. I will always remember coming into the Henderson building with a book bag full of homework and a zeal to serve. Even after graduation, i enjoyed being there all the time. However, times change and the needs of the team change. I welcome these changes as I am excited as to what God has in plan for our church and the crazy things the Production team gets to be apart off.
Oh P.S Jacoby Ford touched my shoulder today….I am not showering that part of my body for at least a week
Random thought about Cell Phones
I wonder how much the cell industry is going to truly change with the advent of the iphone. I am considering entering me and my wife into the smart phone arena. The benefits are profound. We are both accustom to communicating via instant messaging and email. Works great because in meetings i can talk to her without having to excuse myself, and when she is in the classroom she would be able to fire off a text message or email easily without disturbing the flow of her classroom. An iphone family share plan would cost us 110 dollars a month and we get the benefits of email and instant messaging easily at our finger tips. Similar offerings from verizon and competitors would be 160 bucks a month. Unless i am missing something it appears verizon cant put a smartphone on a family share plan. Now i wonder how this will change in the coming months. the cost savings per month with att is substantial for equivalent features. Verizon has been rolling out their “premium plan” campaign. i just dont see this as competitive. Att gives you you-tube and any other h.264 video site. Verizon gives you vcast (only if you have 3g access)…. Att gives you full internet….verizon gives you….mobile internet. Verizon does give you unlimited text messaging… att only gives you 200 sms messages. However att will gladly allow you to upgrade.
Long and short. if smart phones truly start to accelerate in growth, I am anxious to see what will happen across the competition. surely Verizon will not just arrogantly assume that people will choose there network over the almighty apple logo branded on their phone? At&t’s network is going to improve and “its the network” will only go so far. I hope Verizon and other CDMA providers provide a competitive solution at least in their service plans.
